"Follow the Blind", Blind Guardian's sophomore
album would serve as a transitional piece from the speed metal sound that they
began with into the majestic sound they would soon evolve in to. Hansi Kürsch's
vocals, although still suited for the speed metal sound, begin to flourish and
the beginnings of his trademark sound can really be felt on this release. We
still have the thrashing riffs present on the debut, but there are also some
instances where the heaviness is turned up a bit. "Damned For All
Time" displays this with a far more violent vibe than anything up until
this point. Thomen Stauch's drums are still just as pounding as they were in
"Battalions of Fear" and the production, much like its predecessor,
was decent for the time of the release, but by no means diminishes the sound
nor the overall experience. This is a stepping stone to what would soon come.
